Nike lança tênis fácil de calçar para pessoas com deficiência

Quase três anos após Matthew Walzer, que teve uma paralisia cerebral, ter escrito uma carta pedindo à Nike por sapatos mais acessíveis, a empresa anunciou um novo modelo desenvolvido especialmente para pessoas com deficiência. O tênis de basquete, batizado de “Lebron Zoom Soldier 8 Flyease”, usa a nova tecnologia Flyease: em vez de cadarços, mais complicados para pessoas com problemas motores, há um zíper que se estende por todo o calçado, permitindo ao usuário colocá-lo e tirá-lo de forma mais fácil.

A tecnologia levou sete anos para ser desenvolvida e foi motivada pelo desejo do CEO da Nike, Mark Parker, de ajudar o primeiro funcionário da empresa, Jeff Johnson, que sofreu um AVC. Anos mais tarde, a carta do garoto de 19 anos inspirou Hatfield a seguir com o projeto.

Com o design assinado pelo diretor sênior de inovação atlética Tobie Hatfield, o sistema do calçado permite “a melhora de desempenho de atletas de todas as idades”. O designer já havia trabalhado com atletas olímpicos e paraolímpicos.

“É ótimo ter um sapato feito para qualquer pessoa”, disse Walzer. “Ao escrever minha carta, três anos atrás, honestamente eu não esperava muito, talvez apenas uma resposta do serviço de atendimento ao consumidor.”

O garoto contou na carta que enviou à empresa que nasceu prematuro, com pulmões subdesenvolvidos e, logo em seguida, foi diagnosticado com paralisia cerebral. Os médicos afirmaram que ele nunca poderia andar, mas graças ao auxílio de muletas e os tênis de basquete da Nike, que deu a ele o apoio necessário aos tornozelos, ele pode finalmente caminhar.

Havia apenas mais um problema: Walzer tinha flexibilidade em apenas uma das mãos. “Eu sou capaz de me vestir completamente sozinho”, escreveu, “mas meus pais ainda têm de amarrar meus cadarços”. O garoto desejava uma linha de tênis que pudesse garantir sua independência.

Mais cedo neste mês, a Nike enviou o Zoom Soldier 8 Flyease para os times de basquete norte-americanos que vão participar dos Jogos Olímpicos Especiais de Verão, que serão realizados em Los Angeles, na Califórnia, entre 25 de junho e 2 de agosto.

A linha de tênis especiais estará disponível para os consumidores em quantidades limitadas a partir de quinta-feira (16) no site Nike.com. (Forbes Brasil)
